I’ve put together a list of 60 tunes that have stuck with me through the years, inspired by Jeffrey Canam (@GrahfMetal)’s Twitter rundown of his top 100 favourite video game tracks. I’ve attempted to limit myself to a couple songs per game, but there are exceptions.

Here’s a track that uses simple structure to create drama! It starts with a nice repetitive little intro and then opens up into a great melody, which allows rival gang leaders to dish out some smack talk before getting beat down.

Technos Japan released River City Ransom two years after their beat ’em up classic Double Dragon. I loved that they added a bunch of RPG elements like backtracking, exploration, shops, learning new abilities, and stats you could increase by chowing down at various restaurants.
