I’ve put together a list of 60 tunes that have stuck with me through the years, inspired by Jeffrey Canam (@GrahfMetal)’s Twitter rundown of his top 100 favourite video game tracks. I’ve attempted to limit myself to a couple songs per game, but there are exceptions.

I’ll post them here and on Twitter every Tuesday and Thursday using the hashtag #KongsTdayTunes.

Danny Baranowski’s original soundtrack for the breakout indie platformer Super Meat Boy is consistently excellent, but the song I had to highlight here is the Cotton Alley theme, “McLarty Party People.” There’s something beautiful about grinding your way through that whole punishing game, accompanied by electric guitars and fast beats, only to end up guiding Bandage Girl through her own gauntlet of pink-washed nightmare stages accompanied by this jaunty little number.

You’ll be frustrated. You’ll be angry. But this cute melody will help dissipate your stress and keep you playing.
