I’ll post them here and on Twitter every Tuesday and Thursday using the hashtag #KongsTdayTunes.

They named the whole god-damned game after two righteous Queen songs, so Hitoshi Sakimoto had to deliver on the soundtrack. (The soundtrack was a group effort, but Sakimoto composed this particular tune.) This is a glorious battle theme with a rippling melody that kind of predicts his work on the Ivalice games (Final Fantasy Tactics and Final Fantasy XII). And bells. Fight it out!

Every song in Soul Blazer is amazing. It took a lot of will power not to list them all here. Actually, go look up the whole soundtrack when you’re done reading this. It deserves it. You deserve it.

Every song is great, but I just had to include this theme for the early game’s empty town. It’s a beautiful little baroque melody that sets the tone for the entire game, and really gets stuck in your head. As the town becomes more populated, the soundtrack introduces variations on this base theme. The innocence and simplicity of the tune also reinforces the town’s function as an oasis away from the rockin’ regions elsewhere in the world.

Game: Soul Blazer (SNES, 1992)
Composer: Yukihide Takekawa
